About the Program

The Employment Program is structured to deliver the best employment opportunities for individuals with diverse abilities. Our Instructors adjust and facilitate weekly modules to give individuals the most out of our program. Our goal is to empower the individuals and allow them to be confident in their internships and in all future endeavors.

  • The program is offered in 5 terms throughout the year, with new participants in each term. 

    January 17 - March 25, 2022

    April 4 - June 10, 2022

    June 6 - August 12, 2022

    August 8 - October 14, 2022

    October 10 - December 16, 2022

  • The JMMF Employment Program is accepting new registrations for 2023. 2023 dates will be announced soon.

  • Free for eligible participants.

    Direct support staff or natural supports (i.e. parent, caregiver) are encouraged to attend if participants require additional support.

  • The Program is only open to individuals with diverse abilities. Ages 16+.

    An individual with a diverse abilities can include someone who self declares or has received a diagnosis. This can include physical, cognitive and mental health disabilities. Approved PDD Funding is not required.

  • We schedule interested individuals for our program to an in-person or virtual intake interview, 3-4 weeks prior to starting the program. The purpose of the intake interview is to get to know more about their skills, preferred way of learning, and any adjustments they may need to have a meaningful and successful experience in the program

    The kinds of adjustments or accommodations may be in the form of, but not limited to: the delivery of the curriculum in the form of visual supports like videos, written materials, visual schedules, and scheduled 10 minutes breaks to allow the individual information integration and self-regulation. As well as any environmental adjustments for sensory considerations, in the form of: dimming lights, noise cancelling headphones, specialized seats that allowed self-regulation in the form of movement, fidgeting gadgets.

Module Breakdown

During Weeks 1-6, Individuals will learn various employment skills and preparation through virtual or in-class modules. Each module is split into two 5-hour sessions (10am-3pm) delivered twice each week.

In Weeks 7-10, individuals will be at their internship gaining valuable experience at least twice a week for 4-5 hours per day.

  • Discover skills and interests

  • Learn how to develop:  

    • résumés,  

    • cover letters  

    • online profiles to highlight their capacity to fulfil job requirements 

    • fill out print and online application forms 

  • First Aid training with certified trainers.

  • Basics of interviews

    Mastering the interview

  • WHIMIS and Food Safety training and certification

  • Prepare individuals for their 4 week internship with one of our Inclusive Employers

  • Participants of the program have an opportunity to take part in a four-week internship to gain valuable work experience through job shadow and training.  

    Internship opportunities include: 

    • Child Care Worker 

    • Custodian  

    • Facility Maintenance  

    • Food service

    • Office Administration support  

    • Community Disability Supports Worker
