For Employers

Sabrina (Employment OpportUnity Coordinator) with Arturo (owner of El Mero Mero Taqueria, an Inclusive Employer)

Winnifred Stewart’s JMMF Employment Program provides employment services and skills development for people with diverse abilities, who are interested in seeking gainful employment.

Participants will complete the program with the skills and work experience they need to be prepared to begin seeking employment in their preferred field.

The internship portion of the program includes a four-week work experience opportunity with one of the provided partnering businesses. This is an unpaid internship to gain work experience. Program participants are covered under WS’s Worker’s Compensation, so no additional coverage is required to be obtained by the employer.

Partnering businesses and organizations are requested to work with WS Employment OpportUnity Coordinators to help identify opportunities within the business suitable for employment training.

Program participants are required to commit to a minimum of 2 days per week, 4-5 hours per day of employment training with their chosen business. Participants will go through the interview process with the employer, to gain experience and confidence for future interview opportunities. WS Coordinators can provide support to the partnering business to prepare for the interview if required.

 Our Employment OpportUnity Coordinators

Coordinators will work with the employer and staff to facilitate introductions, explore internship and employment opportunities and forge new working relationships. As required, Coordinators will provide information and training to ensure successful integration of the new position and internship participant.

Coordinators will provide support in customizing orientation and training packages while helping to build in natural supports within the current staffing complement. Based on the needs of the individual, our team will create a fade-out plan or provide ongoing staffing support if required, ensuring the individual’s success in their internship role.

Coordinators will be available to the employer for and to any questions, concerns or support that is required.

Coordinators can provide assistance for the employer with the preparation of a letter of reference.

Partnership Recognition – “Inclusive Employer”

In recognition of our partnership, WS would be honoured to feature the business on our social media channels, on our website, and in our newsletter to our members.

As well, the business will be provided with the Joey Moss Memorial Fund “Inclusive Employer” digital badge which can be used in email signatures, or other correspondence and publications to show the community that the business is dedicated to inclusive and diversity in the workplace, through the employment of people with diverse abilities. Door stickers can also be provided at no cost upon request.

Testimonials

  • ACI Architects

ACI is proud to be a participating employer in Winnifred Stewart's Employment Readiness Program, and we are honoured to be recognized as an Inclusive Employer. Mentorship is an important aspect of our profession, and this program expands the ways in which we can nurture growth in others. It is so fulfilling to our team to help actively prepare people for employment and a more independent and socially-connected life.

Our office has now welcomed two participants of the program into our team for their internships. Each person has been a refreshing and friendly addition to our office environment with their readiness to learn and help. We believe that diversity and inclusivity are more than just buzzwords, and this program helps us work towards realizing these values in a meaningful and tangible way.

  • Community Options

The internship program has been wonderful for the centre and for the educators. We have been blessed to have 2 interns so far that share our vision for quality child care.
